The Budapest Horse and Rider is presented among works of Leonardo and his contemporaries borrowed from foreign collections, pieces never before seen in Hungary, in the autumn of 2018. Leonardo’s ten drawings and the sculptures of the artists he inspired evoke the unsolved problem of the renaissance that Leonardo himself sought to solve for four decades: to create a free-standing sculpture of a rearing horse and its rider. The Budapest exhibition is part of the international commemorative series accompanying the five-hundredth anniversary of Leonardo’s death.
