Currently there is only the Jakab Vönöczky research house on the site, providing the necessary background for the workers and researchers of the National Park. Although the remaining part of the site is unused at the moment, it is an important base for those interested in the Kis-Balaton. It functions successfully as a starting point for guided tours and different activities, serving almost 10.000 visitors annually. The “Kis-Balaton Tourist and Visitor Centre” is based on this significant interest. The building complex provides adequate infrastructure, orientation, and information for the visitors of the Balaton Uplands National Park and those interested in the area’s sights. The architectural concept originates from the site and the location, they give it its iconic, unusual character. After many suggestions and the finalization of the program we took a peculiar analogy, the wildlife bridges of highways, as a basis for the consciously single-storey building. According to our plan, the roof of the building is one large angular bridge, covered with walkable green roof.
